Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was performed to amplify and sequence the 16S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) from the bacteria genome. The protocol stated in Barghouthi (2011) was adopted with slight modifications. For this process, universal primers and PCR master mix (Vivantis Technolgies, Cat # PLMM01) were used by a research group from Malaysia.
